Tripura lay importance on multilingual education system: CM

Agartala, Feb 21 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday said that mother language develops own culture and identity and the state government have laid maximum importance for development of multilingual education system as all communities can be beneficial.
“Tripura is a multilingual state. Government have recognized eight languages including the Kokborok and made arrangements in school level so that students from all communities can learn in their own mother language”, Saha said inaugurating the main program on the international mother language day organized jointly by the state government and the Asst. High Commission of Bangladesh here.
He said developing the multilingual education system is compatible with the National Education Policy 2020 introduced by the central government.
Stating that the state government honors all languages and Kokborok, the lingua franca of the indigenous people of the state is the main medium of instructions in 1296 primary schools and 115 Madhyamik and 65 Higher Secondary schools.
The Chakma language has also been introduced in 123 schools and besides, the students can also study in several other languages like Halam, Kuki, Mizo, Manipuri and Garo at the school level, he said.
Chief Minister said, the indigenous people can also write papers for competitive examinations in their own languages.
Earlier, the Asst. High Commission of Bangladesh and Bharat Bangla Maitree Samsad, a cultural body organized colorful rally which traversed through different parts of the capital city.
Chief Minister also inaugurated the Agartala Book Fair at the international Fair Ground here today where more than forty publishers from Kolkata and Bangladesh and local publishers have participated. FD JK
