Agartala, Aug 5 (FD) The Higher Education Department on Wednesday organised the historic “Uccha Shiksha Sanglap” at the conference hall of the State Government Guest House in Agartala. The initiative brought together student representatives from government higher educational institutions across the state along with senior officials of the Higher Education Department to create a direct platform for dialogue between the government and students.
Addressing the interactive session, Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman said the state government is implementing a series of initiatives to transform Tripura into an education hub while ensuring quality, inclusive and student-centric higher education. He stressed that students are the future of the nation and their opinions are essential in shaping policies that strengthen educational institutions.
The minister said the primary objective of the programme was to identify the challenges faced by universities and colleges and find practical solutions through constructive discussions. He assured participants that every suggestion and proposal submitted during the dialogue would be carefully examined and incorporated into future planning wherever feasible.
Student representatives from Tripura University, TIT, Polytechnic Colleges, Government Art College, Law College, College of Teacher Education (Kumarghat), IASE College and several degree colleges actively participated in the discussion. They highlighted issues related to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), campus infrastructure, academic facilities, research opportunities, skill development, student welfare and institutional development.
Emphasising collaborative governance, Kishor Barman said higher education cannot be strengthened solely through government schemes. Instead, it requires active partnership among the government, teachers, students and educational institutions. He described the dialogue as the beginning of a long-term participatory movement that would help create a modern, quality-driven and employment-oriented higher education system in Tripura.
During the programme, the minister also entrusted student representatives with an important responsibility. He urged them to return to their respective colleges and take leadership in building clean, green, disciplined, ragging-free and drug-free campuses while promoting research, innovation and academic excellence. Students were encouraged to prepare practical development plans for their institutions and actively contribute to campus improvement.
Reiterating the government's vision, the minister said Tripura aims to establish itself as a leading educational destination in the Northeast by improving academic standards, strengthening infrastructure and encouraging innovation. He noted that students, teachers and staff members are best positioned to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their institutions, making their participation vital in policy formulation.
Welcoming the participants, Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between policymakers and students for sustainable educational reforms. The programme was also attended by OSD Dr. Sandeep Chakraborty and OSD Biswajit Majumdar, along with officials of the Higher Education Department.
The “Uccha Shiksha Sanglap” concluded with a shared commitment to creating a higher education ecosystem where every student develops not only as a degree holder but also as a skilled, innovative, responsible and nation-building citizen.
