Agartala, Sept 17 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated the Statewide Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, he said that cleanliness is not just a programme but a people’s movement, which has already raised awareness across society.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that maintaining a clean and healthy environment cannot be achieved by the government alone. “Every citizen must act responsibly to build a clean and beautiful state,” he said, urging people to actively participate in the mission. Dr. Saha noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Swachhata Hi Seva was launched in 2014, ensuring cleaner surroundings for children, women, and all citizens. Tripura, he said, has been implementing several projects in line with this mission.
The Chief Minister highlighted key achievements of the state, including door-to-door waste collection in 334 urban wards, construction of 635 community toilets and 1,277 public toilets in 20 urban areas, and distribution of hygienic toilets to over 22,000 families. Additionally, 765 villages have achieved ODF Plus status under the rural Swachh Bharat Mission, with more than 5 lakh household toilets and 590 community toilets constructed. To fight plastic pollution, five plastic waste management units are already functional, while 13 more are in progress.
Praising sanitation workers, Dr. Saha described them as the true architects of a clean society, calling for greater respect for their contributions. He also urged schools and colleges to organize more awareness campaigns.
Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, present as a special guest, said cleanliness is one of the foundations of development and appealed to citizens to build a clean, drug-free, and disease-free society. The programme also felicitated sanitation workers from Agartala Municipal Corporation and other subdivisions for their contribution.
The event concluded with participants taking a cleanliness pledge. FD SB
