Agartala, Sept 23 (FD) The Tripura government is taking steps to gradually reduce the Dearness Allowance (DA) gap for state employees, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy informed the Legislative Assembly today.
Responding to a notice raised by Congress MLA Gopal Roy during the mention session, the Finance Minister said that while keeping the state’s financial resources in mind, measures are being taken to narrow the DA disparity.
He added that the government is also focusing on ensuring regular promotions for employees after completing all legal formalities. A permanent mechanism for granting promotions is expected to be introduced soon.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, Roy noted that the fitment factor was raised from 2.25 to 2.57 in line with the 7th Central Pay Commission, resulting in a 14.22% increase in employees’ basic pay, which further enhances benefits with every DA hike.
The Finance Minister reminded the House that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government provided Dearness Relief (DR) to employees and pensioners, and introduced cash in lieu of Leave Travel Concession (LTC). He also pointed out that earlier there was no policy for regularizing fixed-pay employees, but the present government revised the rule, making them eligible for regularization after five years of continuous service, even across multiple posts.
Addressing promotion issues, Roy said that due to legal complications, promotions were stalled for long periods. However, the present government introduced ad-hoc promotions to extend benefits to employees, and a policy is being prepared to extend the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana benefits to all government staff.
He further informed that the retirement age of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans has been raised from 58 to 60 years, while ration money and dress allowance for TSR and police personnel have been enhanced.
“The monthly pension of Home Guards has been tripled. Additionally, the festival advance for employees has been increased from ₹5,000 to ₹20,000, while the festival grant has been tripled compared to 2018,” the Finance Minister said. FD JK
