Tripura govt working according to Modi’s direction to empower rural women: CM

Agartala, Nov 18 (FD) The state government is working in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direction to empower the rural women of the state, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said on Friday.
Inaugurating the 17th Regional Saras Mela at Hapania International Fair Grounds on Friday, Dr Saha said, “Today I am getting the glimpse of the vision of the prime minister regarding making women self-reliant and economically self-reliant.”
He said the state government is working with the motto of developing rural areas as about 75 percent of the population of the country is living in the rural areas.
“If financial development and economic stability comes in the rural areas eventually the state as well country will be taken place, therefore our government is working towards that direction,” the Chief Minister said.
Taking on the status of Self-help groups in the state as compared with the number of SHGs in the state when former CPIM party was in power, Dr Saha said, the number of SHGs has increased 8.66 times as the number of SHGs increased to 3.45 lakh in 2022-23 financial year from 39824 in 2017-18 financial year.
He said, due to Covid pandemic the Regional Saras Mela was not held for the last two years. Now as the situation has improved the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) organized the fair with the motto 'Matri Shakti, Hobe Swarojgari' in mind. FD PD JK
