Tripura Govt. sign a MoU with IHCL for setting up a hotel at Pushpabanta Palace

Agartala, Mar 14 (FD) Tripura Government on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) for setting up a world class five star hotel at the Puspabanta palace at Kunjaban area, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Friday.
“We had long been discussing about setting up a five star hotel with IIHCL and it was finalized that the world class hotel would be set up at the Puspabanta Palace”, he told a press conference. This indeed a day of delight as we have signed the agreement on the day of Holi”, he said.
State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and the minister for Industries and Commerce Shantana Chakma were also present in the press conference.
Chief Minister said that the proposed hotel will be named as Taj Pushpabanta palace and would be developed by the Taj group at an estimated cost of Rs.250 crores.
He said,” Our government wants to promote the history and legacy of the Manikya dynasty in the global platform. The foreign tourists will have the idea of the dynasty after living in the hotel. It will have 104 rooms, of which four rooms will be designed keeping in mind of the life styles of the Manikya kings”.
Earlier, the Tipra Motha, an ally of the ruling BJP headed by Pradyot Kishore Manikya Bahadur had opposed the government’s decision of converting the royal palace to a hotel.
When asked, what could be the effect of converting the palace, he said when any good work is done some problems arise and we have to sort it out.
He further said the government will speak to Tipra Motha in this regard.
Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya had built the palace in 1917, which was his studio and gust house. FD JK
