Agartala, Aug 27 (FD) The Tripura Government has recruited 4,879 graduate and undergraduate teachers between the academic session 2018–19 and 2025–26, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha informed the state Assembly on Thursday. He also said that 2,684 teachers from various government schools have already been deputed to schools administered by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to ensure that students in ADC areas do not face disruption in their education.
The Chief Minister made the statement while participating in a short-duration discussion on a public interest notice during the second half of the Assembly session. The notice concerning teacher shortages in schools across the state was raised by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury.
According to Saha, since 2018, the Secondary Education Department has appointed 1,413 Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) and 1,471 Graduate Teachers (GTs). In addition, the government has recruited 145 Special Educators, 117 School Librarians and 105 Physical Education Teachers.
The Chief Minister said the process of filling vacant teaching posts under both Elementary and Secondary Education has already started. Recruitment steps have been initiated for 352 Pre-Primary Teachers, with document verification currently underway following completion of the selection test.
For Classes I to V, the government has sent a requisition to the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) for recruitment to 1,036 vacant posts of Assistant Teacher (Primary), Undergraduate Teacher and Kokborok Teacher through TET-I.
Similarly, requisitions have been submitted to TRBT for 1,020 Graduate Teacher and Assistant Teacher posts for Classes V to VIII through TET-II. Recruitment for another 700 Graduate Teacher (STGT) posts is also in progress.
Emphasising the importance of teacher recruitment, Saha said the government’s objective extends beyond providing employment. He stated that every teacher appointed strengthens classrooms, supports children’s futures and contributes to building a stronger Tripura.
The Chief Minister further stressed that ensuring quality education for every child remains one of the top priorities of the state government. FD SB
