Agartala, Jun 10 (FD) In a bid to promote tourism in Tripura, the state government has a plan to develop a "Weekend Tourist Hub" centered on the historic Ujjayanta Palace, an official said on Friday.
The palace, built in 1862 by Prince Chandra Manikya, currently houses the state museum and serves as a major attraction for visitors.
The front side of the Ujjayanta Palace has been designated as the "weekend tourist hub" and will be closed to vehicles from 4 pm to 9 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, according to the official.
A beautification drive has already commenced, with food stalls, traditional item stalls, and flower stalls being set up along the roads leading to the palace.
Additionally, a boating facility will be introduced on the palace's lake, offering a picturesque experience for tourists.
To enhance the overall visitor experience, cultural programs featuring songs and traditional dances will be organized during weekends. The official also mentioned plans to renovate the light and sound system within the palace, as well as illuminate the entire palace premises.
In conjunction with this initiative, the state museum, which showcases Tripura's rich cultural heritage, will be accessible to the public.
The government aims to promote tourism by highlighting other significant destinations in the state, including Unakoti in the North district, Tripureswari Temple in Gomati district, Neermahal in Sepahijala district, and Dumbur in Dhalai district.
These measures underscore the government's commitment to bolstering the tourism sector and making Tripura an attractive destination for travelers seeking cultural experiences and scenic beauty. FD SB PD
