Agartala, Nov 7 (FD) Tripura's Transport Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, officially introduced a state-wide cashless payment system within the Transport Department, making it available at all eight district offices.
This move aligns with the nationwide trend of increasing cashless transactions in India and aims to enhance transparency and streamline services for citizens.
During a press conference, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the success of the pilot project initiated in West Tripura District earlier this year. He emphasized that the cashless system had gained widespread public appreciation, prompting its expansion across the state.
All transactions within the Transport Department, including payments through ATM cards and UPI, will now be conducted electronically.
Furthermore, Minister Chowdhury underscored the significant role the Transport Department plays in revenue generation for the state.
In the previous fiscal year, the department contributed Rs 115 crores (63 lakhs), and it has set an ambitious target of Rs 125 crores for the current fiscal year, with encouraging progress as Rs 73 crores have already been collected by October 2023. FD SB
