Agartala, May 28 (FD) The Tripura government has issued a high alert across the state following a Special Weather Bulletin by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by squally and gusty winds from May 28 to 31.
An official advisory undersigned by Deputy Secretary C.K. Malsom has directed all District Magistrates, emergency departments, and disaster response teams to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures. Authorities have been instructed to evacuate residents from low-lying areas to safe shelters and prepare for immediate relief operations if necessary.
The IMD bulletin, issued from the Meteorological Centre in Agartala, attributes the expected extreme weather to a low-pressure area formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha coast. All district officials have been asked to assess vulnerable areas, mobilize the NDRF, SDRF, TSR, and Fire Services, and keep trained volunteers ready for deployment. Essential rescue equipment such as boats and life jackets must be kept in readiness.
The advisory further instructed officials to monitor river levels, embankments, and catchment areas while initiating preventive measures. Immediate damage assessments and reports must be submitted to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) by 2:00 PM daily.
Departments have also been tasked with the prompt removal of debris and restoration of essential services. The government emphasized a need-based, immediate response aligned with the disaster management plan and continuous monitoring of IMD weather updates. FD JK
