Agartala, Sep 01 (FD) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha, has announced significant initiatives aimed at improving women's safety, empowerment, and overall well-being in urban areas of the state. In a press statement, Chief Minister Saha highlighted the government's commitment to women's welfare.
One of the key initiatives unveiled is the establishment of "pink toilets" exclusively for women in urban areas. The government has allocated a budget for this project to ensure women have access to safe and hygienic restroom facilities.
Additionally, the Chief Minister noted remarkable progress in the formation of self-help groups (SHGs), with their numbers increasing from over 4,000 in 2018 to a staggering 50,000 in 2022. This demonstrates the state's commitment to empowering women economically.
Chief Minister Saha emphasized the government's swift action against crimes targeting women, including domestic violence. The installation of CCTV cameras across urban areas further enhances women's security.
In the education sector, the government has fulfilled its promise of providing free education up to the college level for girl students. Furthermore, they have introduced a 33% reservation for women in government jobs and a 50% reservation for them to operate shops in government shopping complexes.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state's zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and infiltration, showcasing their dedication to maintaining law and order.
These initiatives collectively reflect the Tripura government's commitment to fostering women's safety, empowerment, and overall development, marking a significant step towards a more inclusive and progressive society. FD SB
