Tripura govt demands Center to set up NCB branch in Agartala: Chief Minister

Agartala, Sep 27 (FD) Tripura government has drawn attention of the central government for setting up a unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) here, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha informed the Assembly on Monday.
Replying to a calling attention notice raised by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Dr Saha said, 19 cases under the NDPS Act were recently handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed under the Tripura Police Crime Branch.
He said, a proposal for procurement of a full-body scanner (to scan the vehicles carrying contraband items) is under consideration.
There are six specially trained sniffer dogs are being used for the drives against drugs while the government is further considering a plan for purchasing such dogs in future, Dr. Saha said.
He said, the Tripura government had already been taken several steps to put an end to drug addiction.
The Chief Minister also said, the Tripura Police in collaboration with DRI and NCB is carrying out drives on a regular basis to prevent smuggling of contraband items through the state.
Sharing data, he said, in the anti-drug drives, 291 cases were registered and 557 persons were arrested in 2020, another 352 cases were registered and 690 persons were arrested in 2021 and more 399 cases were registered and 542 persons were arrested till August of the current year. FD PD JK
