Agartala, Jun 28 (FD) The Higher Education Department of Tripura has recently commenced the admission process for government-run colleges, which will continue until July 14.
With an overwhelming response from students, the department has received approximately 50,000 applications for admission in the current academic year, competing for the available 28,342 seats across various colleges in the state.
In a significant development, the department has decided to implement the New Education Policy in 25 government colleges, along with two universities, namely Tripura Central University and Maharaja Bir Bikram University. Under the new policy, students will undertake a four-year degree course at these institutions.
Addressing the media at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala, Higher Education Secretary Sharadindu Choudhury explained the flexibility offered by the new policy. If a student withdraws from the course after one year, they will be allowed to seek admission directly into the second year at any college.
Likewise, after two years, they will receive a diploma, and after three years, a degree. Students who complete the entire four-year programme will graduate.
Choudhury also highlighted that the state government has already invested a sum of Rs. 8.80 crore in the renovation of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College, enhancing the infrastructure for the benefit of students.
According to Director of Higher Education NC Sharma, the merit list will be announced on June 30, and the admission process will continue until July 4. In case any seats remain vacant, a publication will be made on July 6, and admissions will continue until July 14.
Sharma further added that for students who were unable to apply during the initial phase, a spot-round admission process will commence on July 19. These students will have the opportunity to secure admission to different colleges based on their merit.
With a total of 28,342 seats available across government colleges this year, the department has received a total of 49,662 applications so far. The educational authorities are optimistic about accommodating all deserving candidates and ensuring equitable access to quality higher education in Tripura. FD JK
