Tripura Governor urges native tree plantation during Van Mahotsav 2026

Agartala, Aug 25 (FD) Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu has urged citizens to plant indigenous tree species suited to the local environment and ensure their proper care and protection, stressing that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility of every individual and family.

The Governor made the appeal while speaking at the Van Mahotsav Celebration 2026, organised by the Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited (THCL) at its premises under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” The programme focused on encouraging tree plantation, environmental protection and the creation of a greener Tripura.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu said planting a sapling should not be considered the end of the responsibility. He emphasised that adequate care and protection must continue until the sapling develops into a healthy and strong tree.

He also highlighted the importance of planting native tree species that are compatible with Tripura’s ecosystem. According to him, indigenous trees play an important role in protecting local birds, insects and biodiversity while strengthening the ecological balance of the region.

The Governor described “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” as more than a tree-plantation campaign, calling it a symbol of sensitivity towards nature and a commitment to building an eco-friendly world. He encouraged the people of Tripura to take a leading role in the initiative.

Governor Nallu, along with other dignitaries, planted tree saplings during the programme and appreciated THCL for organising the Van Mahotsav celebration.

MLA Minarani Sarkar, Corporator Prasenjit Lodh and Corporator Alok Roy were among those present. THCL Director Sabendra Debbarma delivered the welcome address, while Chairman Jahar Saha proposed the vote of thanks. FD SB
