Agartala, May 28 (FD) On the auspicious occasion of Purnaraj Day, the state government of Tripura unveiled its visionary document titled "Target 2047," outlining the comprehensive roadmap for the state's overall development until 2047.
Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries at the NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi, expressed confidence in Tripura's progress under the inspirational leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government's emphasis on supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across various sectors, including food processing, rubber, tea, bamboo-based industries, handicrafts, agriculture, and horticulture crops. The development of the MSME sector has not only spurred industrial growth but has also expanded trade with neighbouring Bangladesh.
To facilitate industrial growth, the state government has implemented the 'Tripura Industrial Investment Promotion Incentive Scheme (TIIPIS) 2022,' which provides assistance such as capital subsidies and low-cost power to MSMEs. Furthermore, the government's introduction of the 'Single Window System' through the 'Swagat' portal has streamlined the approval process for investment proposals, offering 60 services from 17 departments.
In its pursuit of economic diversification, the state government has released the 'Tripura Agarwood Policy-2021' to establish Tripura as a hub of agar trade within the country, aiming to tap into a burgeoning agar economy worth Tk 2000 crore by 2025.
Underlining its commitment to investment and job creation, the state government has increased its capital expenditure from Tk 835.00 crore in 2020–21 to Tk 2200 crore in 2022–23, marking a remarkable annual increase of 62 percent. To attract private investment in manufacturing industries, the government has identified 2,000 acres of land for industrial development, initiated PPP projects, and established special financial zones. The Asian Development Bank has also agreed to provide loans for the development of 15 industrial cities in the state.
The Tripura government has also prioritised women's empowerment and introduced the 'Tripura State Policy 2022 for Women's Empowerment.' Various measures have been taken to empower women, including the reservation of 33 percent of government job posts for women, the formation of an all-women battalion in the Tripura State Rifles, and the promotion of self-help groups for financial stability and investment opportunities.
Additionally, the state government has implemented schemes such as the Chief Minister's Matra Pusthiin Gigaral, which provides financial support to pregnant women, and the Pradhan Mantri Meth Pusthi Vandana Yojana, which caters to the nutritional needs of expectant mothers. Efforts to improve child nutrition are monitored through the Samka Ministers Poshan Abhiyan.
The Tripura government's commitment to local development is demonstrated by its promotion of the "Vocal for Local" policy, which aims to preserve and develop local skills and traditions while utilising the abundant resources available within the state.
With these progressive initiatives and the unwavering commitment of the state government, Tripura is poised to achieve remarkable growth and become a model for sustainable development in the years leading up to 2047. SB FD
