Agartala, Jan 30 (FD) Tripura Government on Thursday demanded two new criteria to the 16th Finance commission for horizontal distribution of resources including Infra Index and International border criteria, which would help in calculating the Horizontal distribution of resources.
The commission today met the state government led by the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at the civil secretariat here.
The two proposals were sent considering the geographical locations of Tripura and the Chief Minister also proposed modifications to the weightages used by the fifteenth finance commission for revenue distribution among the states.
The chairman of the commission, Aravind Panagariya after the meeting told reporters that the state government suggested for incorporating the infrastructure index with 5% weightage and international border with 5% weightage as additional criteria in revenue distribution. .jpg)
Addressing the media after the meeting, the Chairman said the Tripura Government suggested incorporating the Infrastructure Index with 5% weightage and International Border with 5% weightage as additional criteria in revenue distribution.
He said, Tripura is a well managed state and falling dependency on agriculture.
Chief Minister in social media post said, “Met with the 16th Finance Commission at the Secretariat, Agartala today & welcomed the officials to Tripura.
The discussions included key priorities for the state's development, focusing on sustainable growth, infrastructure enhancement, and addressing unique regional challenges.
I am confident that this collaboration will pave the way for a brighter future for Tripura”.
Panagariya said that the state has sought an increase in its share of taxes from 41 percent to 50 percent, which is similar like that of other north eastern states. FD JK
