Agartala/New Delhi, June 27 (FD) The Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026 commenced at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, showcasing the state's GI-tagged Queen Pineapple and promoting Tripura's agricultural potential before national and international stakeholders.
The inaugural event was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, senior officials, farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters and representatives of the agriculture sector.
In a special message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Tripura government, the Ministry of DoNER and all stakeholders for organising the festival, describing it as a significant initiative to showcase the state's renowned Queen Pineapple to the global market.
The Prime Minister said the GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, known for its distinctive aroma and sweetness, reflects Tripura's rich agricultural heritage. He expressed confidence that the festival would strengthen value chains, expand exports, encourage innovation and improve farmers' livelihoods while enhancing Tripura's position as a global source of premium pineapples.
Referring to the Centre's vision for the Northeast, Modi said initiatives such as the festival reflect the government's commitment to making the region an integral part of India's growth story under the "Act East, Act Fast and Act First" policy. He also expressed hope that the event would attract greater trade and investment and contribute to the vision of Viksit Tripura and Viksit Bharat.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha termed the festival a proud moment for Tripura's farmers and thanked the Prime Minister for his encouraging message. He reaffirmed the state's commitment to strengthening the farming community, boosting pineapple exports and expanding global market access through sustained collaboration with the Centre and industry stakeholders.
The festival is expected to serve as a major platform for promoting investment, value addition, exports and international branding of Tripura's premium Queen Pineapple. FD JK
