Agartala, May 28 (FD) Tripura is all set to host the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan from May 29 to June 12 across 864 locations statewide, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Tuesday. The initiative aims to boost self-reliance in agriculture ahead of the Kharif season.
At a press conference, Minister Nath said the campaign is being held in coordination with the rest of the country and seeks to raise awareness among farmers about agricultural development and government support.
“In every district, three committees have been formed, and each day, meetings will be held with around 200 farmers in three sessions,” Nath explained. The sessions will be conducted from 9 to 11 AM, 12 to 2 PM, and 3 to 5 PM.
Each committee will include representatives from the Agriculture, Horticulture, ARDD, Fisheries, KVKs, ICAR, and local agricultural and veterinary colleges, along with progressive farmers. A total of 72 meetings are planned across the state.
Minister Nath also announced that 24 Krishi Raths will be deployed, displaying banners and information on various state and central agriculture-related schemes. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the event at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also expected to visit the state during the campaign, though the date has not yet been confirmed.
Highlighting the campaign's focus on food security, Nath stated that 1.72 lakh farmers have already been contacted, and around 200 scientists and progressive farmers will actively engage with them.
“The goal is to reassure farmers that the government is with them—offering technology, training, and support,” he emphasized. FD JK
