Tripura: Five sentenced to life for gang rape

Agartala, March 07(FD): The Gomati district court in Tripura has sentenced five persons to life imprisonment unto death for the gang rape of a housewife in November 2021.
The District and Session Court of Gomati awarded them rigorous imprisonment till death to the five accused and also slapped a fine of Rs 60,000 on each of them on Monday.
The court in its verdict pronounced on Monday convicted the accused under section 376 (D) of the Indian Penal Code for gang rape and Section 3 of the SC ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
They were identified as Tajul Islam, Saddam Hossain, Rabban Ali, Dudhu Miah, and Samiman Hossain hail from Sonamura and Melagarh of Sepahijala district
The Special Public Prosecutor Paltu Das told reporters that the gang of the criminals had stopped a motor bike and kidnapped the house wife from the highway at Killa in Gomati district. When protested, her husband was severely beaten up by the goons and left him in a nearby place in a serious condition. She was taken to a remote place and gang raped for the whole night.
In the morning she was shifted to the hospital with severe injuries. Three days after the incident, when her health condition had improved her statement was recorded. Accordingly, two cases were registered with R K Pur police station in Gomati district and later transferred to the Crime Branch for investigation. FD JK
