Agartala, June 27 (FD) Reaffirming the pivotal role of cooperative institutions in strengthening the rural economy, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Saturday said that the Tripura State Cooperative Bank Limited (TSCBL) has been making significant contributions towards the socio-economic development of rural communities across the state. He made the remarks while inaugurating the 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the bank held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala.
The annual general meeting was attended by Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, senior officials of the Cooperative Department, representatives of NABARD, members of the bank's Board of Directors, and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy stated that cooperative institutions have become an essential pillar in promoting inclusive economic growth, particularly in rural areas. He noted that the Tripura State Cooperative Bank has
been extending financial assistance to small and marginal farmers, self-help groups, entrepreneurs, and unemployed youth through various schemes implemented by both the Central and State Governments.
He said the bank has played a vital role in improving livelihoods and boosting economic activities across Tripura. Highlighting the institution's financial performance, the minister informed that the bank's Credit-Deposit (CD) Ratio stands at 66 percent, exceeding the state's average, which reflects its effective credit disbursement and financial outreach.
The Finance Minister also stressed the importance of enhancing customer service standards and simplifying loan procedures to ensure easier access to credit for small traders, farmers, and common citizens. According to him, efficient banking services are essential for accelerating rural development and supporting the state's economic progress.
Speaking on the occasion, Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia emphasized that strengthening the rural economy remains the primary objective of the cooperative movement. He said cooperatives are playing an increasingly important role in achieving the vision of a developed India by empowering rural communities through financial inclusion.
The minister further highlighted that many self-help groups across the state have become self-reliant by availing loans from cooperative banks and undertaking various income-generating activities, thereby creating employment opportunities and improving rural livelihoods.
During the programme, the dignitaries officially unveiled the Annual Report of Tripura State Cooperative Bank for the financial year 2025-26. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy also inaugurated a new ATM counter at the bank's Vikramnagar Branch, while Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia launched the bank's mobile banking application on the Apple Store, marking another step towards digital banking services in the state.
As part of the event, the bank handed over a dividend of Rs 16.83 lakh to the Government of Tripura.
Cooperative Department Secretary Tapas Roy and Tanushree Bhattacharya, General Manager of NABARD, also addressed the gathering. Chairman Nagadhiraj Dutta presented the bank's annual report, while Managing Director Bhajan Chandra Roy delivered the welcome address.
Following the inaugural session, Chairman Nagadhiraj Dutta and Managing Director Bhajan Chandra Roy addressed a press conference at the bank's head office at Post Office Chowmuhani, Agartala. They announced that the bank registered a profit of Rs 166.08 crore during the financial year 2025-26, representing a 40 percent increase over the previous financial year. The bank's operating profit reached Rs 78.08 crore, reflecting a remarkable 103 percent growth compared to the previous year.
The officials further revealed that the bank's total business volume increased to Rs 6,950.92 crore, registering a growth of nearly Rs 289.11 crore over the previous fiscal year. At present, the Tripura State Cooperative Bank operates through 67 branches and 12 ATM facilities across the state, providing banking services to thousands of customers.
The impressive financial performance and expansion of banking infrastructure underscore the bank's growing role in supporting rural development, financial inclusion, and sustainable economic growth across Tripura. FD SB
