Agartala, June 24 (FD) In a significant step towards promoting Tripura as an emerging investment destination on the global stage, the Tripura Investment Development Corporation (TIDC) held a series of high-level meetings with the embassies of Jordan, the Philippines, Chile, and Nepal in New Delhi. The initiative forms part of the state's broader strategy to showcase its investment ecosystem and attract international partnerships ahead of the upcoming Destination Tripura 2026 event.
TIDC Managing Director Deepak Kumar, accompanied by representatives of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), participated in discussions with diplomatic officials from the respective countries. The meetings focused on highlighting Tripura's investor-friendly policies, strategic geographical location, improving connectivity infrastructure, and sector-specific opportunities that position the state as a promising investment hub in Northeast India.
During discussions with the Embassy of Jordan, attended by Ambassador Yousif Abdelghani, both sides explored opportunities for collaboration in tourism, food processing, agriculture and allied sectors, healthcare, education, and trade. The possibility of strengthening commercial ties and fostering investment partnerships between Tripura and Jordan was also examined.
The meeting with the Embassy of the Philippines, represented by Second Secretary Melissa N. Telan, emphasized cooperation in information technology, digital innovation, startup ecosystems, skill development, tourism, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Both sides highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange and capacity-building initiatives aligned with Tripura's development priorities.
In addition, similar meetings were conducted with the embassies of Chile and Nepal. Chilean Ambassador Juan Angulo discussed potential collaboration in information technology, startups, digital services, and entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, Nepalese Minister Dr. Surendra Thapa and Economic Counsellor Rabindra Jung Thapa engaged in discussions on eco-tourism, sustainable tourism models, bamboo-based industries, food processing, and cultural exchanges.
Officials noted that Nepal expressed particular interest in enhancing tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. The Industry and Commerce Department stated that these diplomatic engagements are expected to strengthen Tripura's international profile and open new avenues for investment, innovation, and economic growth as the state prepares for Destination Tripura 2026.
