Tripura Deputy Speaker to Represent State at 69th CPA Conference in Cape Town

Agartala, Sept 2 (FD) Tripura Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal is set to represent the state at the upcoming 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, providing an opportunity to showcase Tripura’s parliamentary traditions and democratic practices on the international platform.

An All India Presiding Officers’ CPA Meeting was held on Tuesday at the Community Hall of Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi under the leadership of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Speakers, Deputy Speakers and other presiding officers from various state legislatures, along with officials of the Central and state governments, attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed preparations for the 69th CPA Conference, which is expected to bring together around 125 representatives from India, including members of Parliament and representatives of state legislatures.

Tripura will be represented by Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal, who is scheduled to attend the conference along with his wife. His participation is expected to provide a platform to highlight the state’s legislative experience, parliamentary practices and democratic institutions before an international audience.

Detailed discussions at the New Delhi meeting covered the composition and preparations of the Indian delegation, the conference programme and the proposed study tour. Participants were also briefed on the guidelines and responsibilities related to their participation.

The Indian delegation is scheduled to leave for Cape Town on September 11. Besides attending the CPA Conference, the delegates will participate in a study tour aimed at gaining exposure to parliamentary institutions and legislative practices.

The delegation is expected to return to India on October 2 following completion of the conference and associated programmes. FD JK
