Agartala, June 20 (FD) In a major step towards strengthening Tripura’s skill development ecosystem and enhancing employment opportunities for youth, a high-level delegation from the state, led by Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, visited the prestigious World Skill Centre (WSC) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Friday.
The visit was undertaken to study the successful operational model of Odisha’s World Skill Centre and explore strategic avenues for collaboration in establishing the proposed World Skill Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania in Agartala. Officials from the Directorate of Skill Development, Tripura, accompanied the minister during the exposure visit.
Describing the initiative as a transformative project for the state, Santana Chakma said the proposed centre at Hapania is being envisioned on an unprecedented scale and will serve as a world-class hub for skill development, innovation, and employability enhancement.
“Visited the prestigious World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar alongside officials from the Directorate of Skill Development, Tripura. The visit focused on exploring strategic avenues for collaboration and sharing best practices for the establishment of the World Skill Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania, Agartala,” the minister stated.
The upcoming centre is planned as a massive G+11 structure spread across more than three lakh square feet of state-of-the-art infrastructure. The landmark project is being undertaken under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM DevINE) scheme of the Government of India.
The proposed World Skill Centre and Employability Hub will function as a Centre of Excellence, offering advanced skill training, industry-oriented education, career counselling, employability enhancement programmes, placement support, and entrepreneurship development opportunities. It aims to bridge the gap between industry requirements and workforce capabilities by imparting training in emerging technologies and high-growth sectors aligned with national and global employment trends.
Recognizing Odisha’s achievements in skill development, the Government of Tripura has engaged the World Skill Centre, Odisha, as its knowledge partner for the project. The institution will provide technical expertise in infrastructure planning, laboratory design, curriculum development, faculty training, certification frameworks, industry linkage mechanisms, and operational strategies.
During the visit, the Tripura delegation toured advanced training laboratories, simulation facilities, smart classrooms, assessment centres, and placement support systems. The team also interacted with faculty members, technical experts, trainees, and industry representatives to gain first-hand knowledge of global best practices in workforce development.
Santana Chakma emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, the state government remains committed to equipping Tripura’s youth with globally competitive skills and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods.
Officials believe that the proposed World Skill Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania will emerge as a landmark institution for Tripura and the entire Northeast, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, employability, and economic growth while transforming the state into a premier hub for talent development.
