Tripura declared as natural calamity-affected area

Agartala, Aug 29 (FD) Amid the visit of an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), Tripura Government today declared the entire state as natural calamity-affected area due to the ‘unprecedented’ flood that created havoc from Aug 19 to Aug 24, official sources said.
State Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pande said the government decided to declare the state as natural calamity-affected area as at least 32 people lost lives and one is missing, extensive damage of properties, crop loss and damage of private and public infrastructures.
A press communiqué issued by the Chief Minister’s office said 346 relief camps are still operational and providing shelter to around 52,906 persons in the State. They are provided with necessary relief, including food, drinking water and medical help etc.
To prevent spreading of any water borne diseases, regular cleaning of toilets, bleaching, disinfectant spraying and hygienic environment in shelter houses has been ensured.
The Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by Shri B. C. Joshi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi arrived yesterday in the State and held a meeting with the officials of the State Government.
The IMCT has today gone out in field for on-the-spot damage assessment in affected areas of South Tripura and Gomati Districts, which were most affected.
To tackle the fallout of floods on health aspects, doctors have visited 1271 times different relief camps to treat 37,596 persons. In addition, they have carried out 1,867 health camps to conduct health checkup of 43,887 persons, it said. FD JK
