Tripura cracks down on illegal infiltration, arrests 2,815 Bangladeshis in three years

Agartala, Jan 13 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that 2,815 illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in last three years from the beginning of the 2022 to October 31, 2024.
Saha, who is also the home minister of the state, informed the state assembly replying to the questions by ruling Tipra Motha MLA, Ranjit Debbarma, opposition CPI-M, MLA Nayan Sarkar and the leader of the opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury.
He said of the illegal migrants, 1746 have been deported to their country and the remaining 1,069 individuals are in various detention centers, of which 474 are in jail, 8 in temporary detention centers, 2 are in shelters and 585 have been released on bail by the court.
Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to address the issues of illegal infiltration, legal measures have been emphasized to arrest them and to deport the unauthorized infiltrators.
“The issues of the cross border infiltration are a matter of deep concern for us and the authorities are trying to curb the menace through arrest, detention and deportation”, Saha said.
In a separate question, asked by the leader of the opposition, the Chief Minister said that a total of 808 women were reported missing to police stations from April 1 to October 31 last year and as of Jan 8 this year , 721 women have been rescued. FD JK
