Agartala, Dec 7 (FD) Tripura’s BJP Government has not provided even half of the 100 man days under MGNREGA to the poor people living in the rural areas of the state, opposition Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President, Asish Kumar Saha said today.
“The MGNREGA was introduced to help the poor people, mainly living in the rural areas and are entitled to get at least 100 mandays to all MGNREGA job card holders. But people of the state have not been given even half of the MGNREGA jobs. So we have demanded that at least 100 days jobs under the scheme is given to them”, Saha told reporters.
He said the state government has given 44 days mandays in Tripura so far and in the last year the BJP government had provided only 55 days mandays.
Saha said that the MGNREGA was formulated by the UPA government to provide at least 100 mandays to the poor people living in the village areas.
“Even the BJP in its Vision document formulated in 2018 had envisioned that at least 200 mandays would be provided to the rural people with an increased wage of Rs 340, but so far they have not reached 100 days so far. But at present, the mandays generation is reduction every year, which is not acceptable to us”, Saha said.
He claimed that the people living in the rural areas are living in deplorable conditions as they faced untimely rainfall, overwhelming floods, unemployment and high rise of prices of essential commodities.
Tripura has so far set a target of generating 3 crore mandays in the current fiscal, but 1.30 card holder out of the total 6.83 card holders do not get jobs, Saha said.
He said that the tribal people living in the interior areas are facing a tough situation as the unemployment problems there are more acute and they were facing the maximum hardships. FD JK
