Agartala, Oct 4 (FD) The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has demanded that the state government publish a white paper detailing the background of militants from banned outfits National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), who recently surrendered under a peace accord with the Centre and the state.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha said the people of Tripura deserve transparency regarding the 584 militants who laid down arms before Chief Minister Manik Saha at Jampuijala in Sepahijala district on September 24. The agreement had earlier been signed in New Delhi on September 4 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“The government must disclose how many among these surrendered militants are facing criminal cases,” Saha said, while questioning the Rs 250 crore rehabilitation package announced for the surrendered insurgents. He criticized the Centre for not extending comparable assistance to flood-affected people in Tripura.
The Congress leader also pressed for a separate rehabilitation package for families displaced by decades of insurgency, pointing out that both tribal and non-tribal communities continue to suffer in neglect.
Broadening his attack, Saha accused the BJP-led government of ignoring core issues like unemployment, corruption, and deprivation among state employees. He alleged corruption in infrastructure projects had become “institutionalized,” involving senior ministers.
Saha further stated that the Congress is preparing a charter of demands and will launch a statewide agitation. With elections to the Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and municipal bodies due next year, he claimed the Congress is reorganizing at the grassroots to challenge the ruling party.
“There is deep discontent among the people of Tripura. They are waiting for an opportunity to unseat the BJP government, and change is on the horizon,” Saha asserted. FD JK
