Agartala, Nov 02 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday urged the students to come forward in organizing awareness programmes alongside the state government's initiative to combat addiction.
After inaugurating a Seminar on 54th NSS Day, 2022 celebration and Drug Free Tripura organized at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, Dr Saha highlighted Tripura as one of the states with highest number of drug seizures.
He said, “Since 2018 around 700 drug-trafficking vehicles have been seized. A special investigation team has been formed in the state for anti-narcotics operations. About 19 cases have been registered till September 2022”.
Minister YAS, Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury remained present as the Chief Guest.
Dr Saha, however, appreciated the role of Tripura Police as the police department is carrying out special operations to prevent drug trafficking besides conducting regular unannounced inspections. The Chief Minister also appreciated the tireless efforts of the NSS volunteers who work with the principle of "community before self".
Greeting the students and NSS volunteers at the program, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury said, “Not I but You", the motto of NSS itself suggests that NSS volunteers always put community before themselves.
He said every year since September 24, 1969 NSS Day is celebrated in the state along with the entire nation with due dignity but because of few issues the department is observing the day on November 02.
