Tripura CM today reviewed the flood situation, centre to send teams for assessment

Agartala, Aug 27 (FD) With the receding of flood water since Monday last, all the schools and colleges in Tripura opened today, official sources said.
Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday reviewed the current flood situation and asses the response effort with top officials of the state.
He said that Centre will send a team to the state to assess the damage caused by the floods, which began since August 19 last.
Sources said the schools and colleges where the flood affected displaced people are continuing to stay would not open now.
Director of School Education, Nripendra Chandra Sharma said all the schools including the private schools opened today, but where the flood affected people are sheltered would open in due course of time.
Director of Higher Education Department, Animesh Debbarma said that the department has reviewed the flood situation and decided to reopen all colleges and universities from today.
Officials said that relief 239 schools would remain closed as the displaced people are still sheltered there adding that most of the school properties of 209 schools including furniture and books were damaged due to the flood.
According to preliminary assessment the education department incurred a loss of Rs. 11 crore.
State Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pande said at least 26 people lost their lives, two missing and 17 lakh people were affected including 1.37 people were displaced and forced to take shelters in government buildings.
Chief Minister said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured him that central team would be dispatched soon to make an on the spot study.
Meanwhile, donations from different organizations, individuals and others states have started pouring in.
Saha said, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav and UP CM Yogi Adityanath have sent Rs twenty crore and ten crores respectively.
Pandey said all district magistrates were asked to conduct an assessment of damage caused by the floods and according to initial assessment the estimated damage stands at about Rs 15,000 crores. FD JK
