Tripura CM orders urgent drainage works to tackle Bilonia flooding
By Firstdespatch Desk Sep 30, 2025
Agartala, Sept 30 (FD) Recent heavy rainfall in the Bilonia sub-division of South Tripura caused flooding in the low-lying areas of Ishan Chandranagar and Ballarmukh. Upon receiving reports of the situation, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha immediately directed the Public Works Department (Water Resources) to take urgent measures for drainage and flood relief.
Acting swiftly on the Chief Minister’s instruction, Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department, Sudhan Debbarma, along with South Tripura District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P. and other concerned officials, visited the affected areas on May 19. To address the issue, a new drainage channel was connected to the Ballarmukh stream catchment area to ensure smooth flow of stagnant water.
The emergency excavation work, which covered around 70 meters in length, 2–3 meters in width, and 4–6 feet in depth, was completed within a short span of time. Presently, excess rainwater is being effectively discharged through the new drain. Officials also confirmed that another larger drainage channel will soon be dug. Once completed, it is expected that flooding in Ishan Chandranagar, Ballarmukh, and nearby areas during the monsoon season will be permanently resolved. FD SB
