Agartala, Aug 30 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed fire service station at Manubankul in Sabroom through a virtual programme from the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala, marking the addition of the state’s 52nd fire station.
The new fire station, constructed at a cost of Rs 2.45 crore, is expected to strengthen emergency response services in the Sabroom area and fulfil a long-standing demand of local residents. The Chief Minister said the state government remains committed not only to overall development but also to protecting the lives and properties of people.
Speaking at a joint programme organised by the Fire and Emergency Services Department and the Skill Development Department, Dr. Saha said the government is giving special importance to creating alternative employment opportunities alongside government jobs. He stressed that empowering women economically is an important part of improving the socio-economic condition of families and promoting self-reliance.
As part of the initiative, 180 trained women beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Skill Development Project received sewing machines along with a stipend of Rs 2,000. The programme aims to help women pursue self-employment and build sustainable livelihoods. Dr. Saha said trained beneficiaries are being linked with different self-employment opportunities after completing their skill development programmes.
According to the Chief Minister, 2,130 women have benefited from the scheme so far during the 2026-27 financial year.
The programme also saw the distribution of offer letters to 16 newly appointed drivers under the Fire and Emergency Services Department. Dr. Saha formally handed over offer letters to five beneficiaries. Congratulating the newly appointed employees, he said joining government service carries the responsibility of serving people with honesty, dedication and perseverance.
He urged Fire and Emergency Services personnel to remain alert and vigilant while performing their duties and work as sentinels for protecting human lives and property. The government, he said, is also focusing on addressing manpower shortages in the fire services while equipping the department with modern equipment.
Tripura currently has 52 fire service stations. New stations have also been established at Gorgi, Boxanagar and Ganganagar in Dhalai district, while plans are underway to establish five more fire stations at different locations across the state.
Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, speaking as the guest of honour, highlighted the importance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on “Vocal for Local” and self-reliance. She said the state government is working to involve women in various economic activities to strengthen Tripura’s journey towards self-reliance.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder attended the programme as a special guest. Industries and Commerce Department Secretary Kiran Gitte delivered the welcome address, while Fire and Emergency Services Director Tamal Majumder proposed the vote of thanks.
A documentary highlighting the achievements of the Chief Minister Skill Development Project was also screened during the event. FD SB
