Tripura CM Leads Jal Board to Address Water Supply Issues in Urban Areas

Agartala, May 7 (FD) At the 5th meeting of the Tripura Jal Board, held yesterday in the Secretariat's conference hall, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reaffirmed the state government's commitment to ensuring a reliable and safe drinking water supply for the citizens. The government has undertaken several initiatives to provide purified drinking water to the public, focusing on areas with ongoing water supply challenges.
Dr. Saha stressed the need for immediate measures to address water supply issues in under-served regions and recommended the replacement of outdated pipelines where necessary. He emphasized the importance of installing Iron Removal Plants in areas facing high iron content in water. Additionally, the Chief Minister called for clear guidelines for connecting apartment buildings to the water supply and for thorough testing of water quality before distribution.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of implementing a transparent system for water connection distribution and proper maintenance of Water ATMs. These steps, he stated, would ensure both accessibility and sustainability in providing clean water to all residents.
Tripura Jal Board’s Chief Executive Officer, Vivek H.B., provided an overview of the Board's current projects, including the status of the AMRUT 2.0 project and the operation of 13 Groundwater and Surface Water Treatment Plants in Agartala. He also shared the progress of extending water connections, with plans to reach 84,378 households by March 2025, covering 69.12% of homes in the city's Central, South, North, and East zones.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Drinking Water & Sanitation Secretary Abhishek Singh, and other senior members of the Tripura Jal Board. FD SB
