Agartala, Aug 22 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated several education and digital development initiatives, including interactive virtual classrooms in 240 schools across the state and the NAKSHA pilot project for micro-level land measurement in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas.
The Chief Minister launched the initiatives during a programme at PM-SHRI AD Nagar English Medium School, where he also laid the foundation stones for new buildings at five schools—PM-SHRI AD Nagar Higher Secondary English Medium School, Bardowali Higher Secondary School, Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan, Charipara Higher Secondary School and Hapania Higher Secondary School.
According to the government, around Rs 29.12 crore will be invested in the construction of the five new school buildings under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) scheme. The projects are aimed at strengthening educational infrastructure and creating better learning environments for students.
Speaking at the programme, Chief Minister Saha said the state government was continuously working to improve the quality of school education and infrastructure across Tripura. He emphasised that students are the future leaders of society and that schools must provide them with adequate facilities and a safe environment.
The Chief Minister said officials have been directed to collect information on essential facilities such as boundary walls, drinking water, seating arrangements, toilets and mid-day meal infrastructure in schools. Necessary measures would subsequently be taken to address deficiencies. He also said Bardowali Higher Secondary School is planned to be developed as a model school in the future.
A major highlight of the programme was the launch of interactive virtual classrooms in 240 schools located in remote and far-flung areas of different districts. The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 40,000 students by providing access to teachers from urban areas through a centralised studio.
The virtual classes will cover subjects including Mathematics, English and Science and will have two-way interactive facilities, allowing students to communicate with teachers and ask questions during lessons. The initiative is intended to reduce educational disparities and help prevent students in remote areas from dropping out.
The Chief Minister also highlighted several state education initiatives, including ICT facilities, Tinkering Labs, NIPUN Tripura, Vidyasetu and MUKUL. He also referred to programmes such as the distribution of free bicycles to 1.65 lakh girl students, the Talent Search Programme and Super-30.
Saha urged parents not to place excessive pressure on children to achieve higher marks. Instead, he encouraged them to help students develop into responsible and well-rounded individuals by participating in sports, cultural activities, social service and patriotic programmes.
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the NAKSHA pilot project for the digitalisation of land maps and micro-level land measurement in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area. The project will use advanced technologies to address various land measurement-related issues.
Urban Development Department Secretary Milind Ramteke said the first phase of the NAKSHA project would cover around 32 square kilometres across 35 wards of the AMC area.
The programme was attended by AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Corporator Alak Roy, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar and other officials and dignitaries. Director of Education Department Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury delivered the welcome address. FD SB
