Agartala, Aug 13 (FD): Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today kicked off the three-day long celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by flagging off many colourful events when the security was beefed up throughout the state to keep the programme peaceful.
Dr. Saha kicked off ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ program by flagging off a bike rally at the Umakanta Academy here and appealed to the people of the state to hoist national flag in every homes.
“As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on
the occasion of 75th anniversary of the country's independence, today I started a bike rally in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' program. The programme is inaugurated from the Umakanta Academy terrace of the capital. I request every citizen of the state to hoist the national flag in their own homes from 13 to 15 August”, Saha wrote in his official facebook handle.
He also kicked off a procession of motor engine powered boat at Dombur reservoir of Narkel Kunj, a famous tourist spot in Gomati district, about 75 km from here.
“Participated in 'Har Ghar Tiranga' programme at Gondachhara Mahkumar Narkel Kunj as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. I am very happy and amazed to be part of the programme of 'Har Ghar Tricolor' with national flag in the lovely procession of motor engine powered boat at Dombur reservoir of Narkel Kunj. Hope this pleasant place will become more attractive to tourists in the state's tourism industry. The state government will take necessary initiatives on how to make the area more beautiful and attract tourists in the future”, he wrote in his face book post.
He also hoisted a high mast national flag at the civil secretariat here.
Meanwhile, security forces were augmented before the vital installations of the state including civil secretariat, Rajbhavan, residences of the ministers, important government buildings, rail stations and the lone airport.
A senior police official said additional forces have been deployed in strategic areas, while dog squads have been put into service in Agartala to thwart any untoward incident.
"TSR and CRPF jawans have been carrying out special operations in interior areas. There has been no adverse report on the security point of view," he added.
BSF said the 856-km international border has been put on high alert to ensure peace during the celebrations. The state government has set a target of hoisting national flags in 5.37 lakh households as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' programme, aimed at promoting nationalism among the people.
