Agartala, Nov 25 (FD) Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has inaugurated the first Drone Technology Centre of the state setup at Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) in Narsingarh here on Friday.
With an aim to strengthening the technical education of the state, the Higher Education department has developed it to encourage innovative ideas among the students.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Dr. Saha said the use of advanced technology makes the development process smoother.
He said, “The use of advanced technology makes the development process smoother. Without use of technology the process of development will not be accelerated.”
Dr Saha said, the premier technical institute of the state, earlier known as Polytechnic Institute, had lost its glory due to some unethical activities of a section. Since its inception as TIT, it has continued to achieve in various areas.
The students of TIT have made two drones so far and the Chief Minister appreciated the spirit of the students.
Education Minister Ratanlal Nath said the centre aims to impart skills to the youth to operate, maintain and design drones for use in various applications. In the long term, the center is expected to provide manpower trained in drone technology to work in various positions in drone-related industries, he said.
He said drones are now being used in agriculture to spread seeds, fertilizers and pesticides over large areas and even in remote areas in a short period of time.
MLA Krishnadhan Das, Secretary of Higher Education department Saradindu Chowdhury, director N.C. Sarma and Principal in-charge of TIT Prof. (Dr.) ShekarDutta and others were present in the programme.
