Agartala, Nov 04 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated newly built synthetic turf and flood lights at Umakanta football ground here on Friday.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma attended the programme as chief guest while Sports Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Mayor Dipak Majumder and other dignitaries also attended the programme.
Addressing the opening ceremony at Umakanta School ground, Dr Saha said, the govt is working to develop sports infrastructure in the state.
“Infrastructure is very important for the development of sports as well as sports people and we are working with this vision,” the Chief Minister said.
Sports infrastructure has improved a lot in the state so far and with the introduction of synthetic turf at Umakanta Mini Stadium a new feather was added to the cap, which was built as per FIFA guidelines is an example, Dr Saha added.
The Chief Minster expressed hope that many talented football players would emerge from this ground in coming days.
The opening ceremony was followed by the 9th match of B-Division League Football between Nine Bullets vs Tripura Sports School.
Domestic B-Division football matches aim to bring another dimension to two special occasions. Although eight matches of the tournament have already been played, after the official inauguration of the synthetic turf ground tomorrow, the remaining 20 matches of the League have also been announced to be played on this ground.
Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Secretary of Youth Welfare and Sports Department Dr. PK Chakraborty, Sports Council Secretary Amit Rakshit, Tripura Football Association Executive president Pranab Sarkar and others also attended the programme.
