Agartala, Sep 24 (FD): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday said that an international conspiracy was hatched to destroy the new generation in the North-East by spreading drugs, which are smuggled from Myanmar and go to Bangladesh via Mizoram, Tripura and Assam.
Addressing the youths on the day of NSS today at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan here, Chief Minister , who is also home minister of the state said the drug menace in the northeastern state is an international conspiracy to destroy the young generation.
He said the government of Tripura has announced zero tolerance to the drug menace and also achieved several achievements in raids by the security forces and could seize huge quantum of narcotics from the drug traffickers.
Saha said there is highest number of youths in India, which is not available in other parts of the world, so a coterie has hatched a conspiracy to destroy the generation of youths.
Addressing a ‘Nesha Mukta Tripura’ (Addiction-free Tripura) he said the war against drugs was launched in the state after the BJP formed the government in 2018.
“We have asked the security forces to go to the root of the menace and nab the real offenders responsible for destroying our youths. Police must nab those selling drugs near schools and colleges,” he said.
Saha claimed Tripura stood second in the Northeast in terms of destruction of drugs after Assam, and appealed to NSS (National Service Scheme) volunteers to take a lead in tackling the “grave situation”.
