New Delhi, 23 (FD) In a landmark announcement at the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha laid out an ambitious roadmap to make the state a beacon of technological advancement, driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G connectivity.
Addressing a packed session titled “IT for Ashtalakshmi: Beyond the Bits and Bytes, Into AI and 5G,” CM Saha underscored the government’s strategic efforts to position Tripura—and the broader Northeast—as a digital powerhouse
. “Tripura is not just adopting new technologies; we’re leading with them,” said Saha.
He revealed that the Tripura government has earmarked land in Agartala to build state-of-the-art data centers. One of these centers is expected to function as a pivotal data hub for the entire eastern and northeastern corridor of India.
Drawing symbolic parallels, Saha referred to the Northeast's eight states as "Ashtalakshmi," highlighting their untapped potential. “Like Goddess Lakshmi, these states symbolize prosperity, knowledge, and resilience. With AI and 5G, we’re poised to transform this potential into performance,” he noted.
The Chief Minister elaborated on the synergistic impact of AI and 5G technologies. “While 5G enables ultra-fast, low-latency communication, AI brings intelligent decision-making into the equation. Together, they will redefine how we approach governance, healthcare, education, and industry,” he said.
Tripura has already achieved significant progress, with 5G connectivity rolled out across all towns
and 583 villages. Supporting this digital revolution, the state has enacted forward-thinking policies, including the Information Technology Policy 2022 and the Data Center Policy 2021.
Further showcasing the state’s commitment to innovation, Saha highlighted the recent “AI for Good Governance” workshop, jointly organized with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the National e-Governance Division.
“Our transition to paperless administration has cut down file processing time from nine to three days, saving over ₹50 crore annually. These digital reforms enhance transparency and efficiency across departments,” Saha emphasized.
Looking forward, the CM revealed plans for the rollout of single-window digital platforms and AI-driven pilot projects tailored to departmental needs. “This is just the beginning. As Tripura paves the way, we aim to create a Northeast that is digitally empowered and future-ready,” he concluded. FD SB JK
