Agartala, May 13 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha today greeted the director and producer of the controversial film, ‘The Kerala story’ and said; students of Tripura should watch this film.
"After seeing the film, people themselves will understand the situation of how people are suppressed and oppressed in Kerala. I want to thank the director and producer who made this film. Students of Tripura should watch this film", the Chief Minister said.
Saha and his cabinet colleagues today watched Sudipto Sen directed 'The Kerala Story' at a private film theatre here this afternoon.
He saw the film in a screening theatre in the city accompanied by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Youth Affairs and Sports minister Tinku Roy, Agriculture minister Ratan Lal Nath, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, former Speaker Ratan Chakraborty, and a slew of BJP legislators and leaders including its state president Rajib Bhattacharjee.
After seeing the film, he told reporters that all students of the state should watch 'The Kerala Story'.
"People will know and understand how people are suppressed and oppressed. This is really unfortunate. I want to thank the director and producer who made this film. Students of Tripura should watch this film. They must watch it", the Chief Minister said.
While several Chief Ministers including Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma have watched 'The Kerala Story' thronged by ministers of their respective cabinets and MLAs, West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee government has banned the film.
The Bengal government reasoned that the decision was taken to avoid any incident of violence and maintain law and order.
On the West Bengal government's decision to ban the film in the state, Tripura CM Dr. Saha said, "We all know the reason this film will be banned in West Bengal. I don't want to speak much on this. It wouldn't help by banning. People will watch it anyway".
However, he hinted at the lack of democracy in West Bengal and said he is hearing Bengal Story (film) might be made soon, in an oblique reference that it might have something similar to 'The Kerala Story'. FD JK
