Agartala, August 1 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has appealed to the people of the state to take a collective pledge against drug abuse and work towards building a healthy, safe and value-based society for future generations.
In a message ahead of the nationwide 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan', to be observed from August 6 to 20, the Chief Minister said Tripura would actively participate in the campaign aimed at strengthening public awareness against substance abuse.
Dr. Saha said the country is moving forward with a renewed commitment to realise the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) by 2047, and described the anti-drug campaign as an integral part of that national mission.
According to the Chief Minister, the campaign is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the Medical Wing of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya. He said the initiative aims to spread the message of freedom from addiction among nearly 10 crore people across the country.
Welcoming Tripura's participation in the campaign, Dr. Saha congratulated members of the Brahma Kumaris family and all those associated with the initiative for undertaking what he described as a timely and socially significant endeavour.
Highlighting the importance of August in India's national calendar, the Chief Minister noted that the month marks both Independence Day and International Youth Day, making it an appropriate occasion to inspire citizens—particularly the youth—to reject the menace of drug abuse.
"I sincerely appeal to every citizen of the state to take a firm pledge to keep ourselves free from the devastating scourge of drugs," Dr. Saha said.
He urged people to join hands in creating a healthy, secure, disciplined and value-based society, emphasising that a drug-free Tripura would make a meaningful contribution to India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
"Let us all work together to build a drug-free Tripura and actively participate in this great national journey towards a developed India," the Chief Minister added. FD JK
