Agartala, Sep 20 (FD) The Tripura Civil Society on Saturday announced a statewide dawn-to-dusk bandh on October 13 to demand the introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, action against illegal immigrants, and speedy implementation of the Tiprasa Accord.
Extending support to the bandh, Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma said the call was given by a non-political organisation. “Our demand is that the Tripura government must take strict action against illegal immigrants as directed by the Union Home Ministry. Unlike Assam, Gujarat, and Delhi, Tripura has failed to act,” Debbarma alleged at a press conference.
He also criticised the Centre’s decision to extend the deadline for granting Indian citizenship to refugees, calling it unacceptable to civil society. “In TTAADC areas, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) should not be implemented. Refugees and illegal migrants are not the same, and many illegal residents have not even applied for citizenship,” he said.
The demands raised include setting up detention camps in every district, forming a Special Task Force to identify and deport illegal migrants, and introducing ILP in Tripura, which is already operational in several northeastern states. Debbarma stressed that ILP “is not against any community.”
He further demanded strict action against those using fake SC and ST certificates and urged official recognition of the Roman script for the Kokborok language. The MLA also reiterated the need for immediate implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, signed earlier this year.
Organisers said the bandh would be observed peacefully across the state on October 13, from dawn to dusk. FD JK
