Agartala, Oct 14 (FD) The bond of unity and harmony among the various caste and ethnic communities in Tripura is being fortified through the celebration of Durgotsava.
The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, is committed to fostering this unity, working towards creating a stronger and more united "Shrestha Tripura." irls' School on Monday.
Dr. Saha mentioned that the tradition of a grand procession during the departure of Durga idols has existed since the royal era, with Maharani Tulsibati Girls' School playing a key role. Keeping this legacy in mind, the decision was made to host the Mayer Gomon in front of the school once again this year.
Numerous city-based clubs were invited to participate in the event, ensuring a collective celebration of Durga’s departure. To ensure the smooth organization of the event, comprehensive arrangements were made, and security measures were taken to manage the crowds in an orderly fashion.
The Chief Minister also praised the recent modernization efforts at Dasmighat, spearheaded by Agartala Pur Nigam. This initiative has made it possible for idol immersions to take place in a more organize
d and dignified manner, adding to the grandeur of the festival. Dr. Saha extended his gratitude to all the organizers and workers involved, including the Mayor of Pur Nigam.
Mayor Deepak Majumdar shared that the enthusiasm for the Mayer Gomon has grown substantially over the past two years, with a massive turnout from residents. This year, too, the excitement is palpable as citizens from all walks of life gather to celebrate the auspicious occasion. He further credited the state's current government for ensuring the smooth and peaceful celebration of Durgotsava without any untoward incidents.
Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Department of Information and Culture, recalled that the "Rajo Maa Gomon" program was first introduced in 2022. This year’s event sees the participation of 45 clubs
from Agartala city, and awards will be presented to clubs excelling in various categories. The top three clubs will receive cash prizes of 50,000, 30,000, and 20,000 taka, respectively. In addition, clubs that have organized outstanding puja celebrations at the district level will also be recognized.
The ceremony was graced by Tourism Minister Sushant Chowdhury, People's Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, West Tripura Zilla Parishad president Balai Goswami, West Tripura District Commissioner Dr. Vishal Kumar, Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, and Director of the Information and Culture Department Bimbisar Bhattacharya, among others.
