Agartala, Sept 25 (FD) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strengthened its foothold in Tripura’s tribal regions, as a key Tipra Motha leader and 920 supporters formally joined the party in Agartala. The joining ceremony, held at Rabindra Centennial Hall, was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who welcomed the new members and praised their confidence in the BJP’s leadership and development policies.
Speaking at the event, the Tipra Motha leader said the decision to join BJP was taken after careful consideration of the region’s future and the community’s aspirations. He highlighted that the move reflected faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for tribal welfare and overall development. “This step is a bright example of the trust and belief that tribal communities have in the BJP’s leadership,” he said.
Chief Minister Dr. Saha reaffirmed that the party is committed to ensuring peace, prosperity, and inclusive growth across Tripura. “We believe this new induction will add strength to our mission of holistic development in tribal areas,” he remarked.
The political shift is seen as a strategic boost for BJP ahead of the crucial Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. The council governs nearly two-thirds of the state and has significant influence over local governance. Analysts say the induction could reshape the political landscape, challenging regional forces and consolidating BJP’s voter base in tribal regions.
While opposition parties, including Tipra Motha and CPI(M), criticized the move as opportunistic, the BJP views it as a reflection of its growing organizational strength and governance-focused agenda. As the TTAADC elections approach, the party is expected to intensify its outreach, leveraging new memberships to reinforce its electoral prospects in Tripura’s tribal belt. FD SB
