Agartala, Aug 22 (FD) The monsoon session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly will commence on August 27, with sittings scheduled for August 28 and August 31. The three-day session will formally conclude on August 31.
The schedule was finalised on Friday at a meeting of the Assembly’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC), chaired by Speaker Rampada Jamatia. The House will begin its proceedings at 11 am on each sitting day.
According to the Speaker, the session has been structured to ensure that the weekend does not disrupt the proceedings, particularly as the first sitting is scheduled for a Friday.
Jamatia said that no government Bill has been listed for the session so far, although legislation may be introduced during the proceedings if required. He added that a short-duration discussion notice submitted by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on issues related to smart meters and electricity billing has already been admitted.
More notices concerning issues of public importance may also be submitted and considered before the commencement of the session.
The BAC reviewed the proposed agenda, duration of the session and other logistical arrangements. The meeting also discussed the proposed transition towards a paperless Legislative Assembly, though the Speaker said that the initiative would require more time before it could be fully implemented.
Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy and Minister Animesh Debbarma were among those present at the meeting.
The upcoming monsoon session is expected to witness discussions on a range of public concerns, development-related issues and other matters affecting the state, with the debate on smart meters and electricity billing likely to be among the key issues before the House. FD JK
