Tripura Assembly monsoon session to begin on August 27

Agartala, Aug 26 (FD) The three-day monsoon session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly will begin on August 27, with sittings also scheduled for August 28 and August 31. The House will not meet during the intervening weekend and is scheduled to commence proceedings at 11 am on each sitting day.

The schedule and business of the House were finalised at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), chaired by Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia. Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul, along with representatives of the ruling party and the opposition, attended the meeting.

The upcoming session is expected to witness discussions on several issues of public importance, including concerns surrounding the installation of smart electricity meters and complaints of increased power bills faced by consumers across the state.

The issue of smart meters and electricity tariffs has emerged as a major public concern, with the opposition expected to raise the matter during the proceedings.

The session may also see the introduction of new legislation, although no major government Bill has been officially listed so far. Among the possible legislative proposals is an Ease of Doing Business Bill aimed at simplifying administrative procedures, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and creating a more investor-friendly environment in the state.

The three-day session is expected to provide a platform for the government and opposition to debate key administrative, economic and public utility issues.  FD JK
