Agartala, March 16 (FD) Altogether 44 newly elected MLAs of Tripura today took oath of office and secrecy in Tripura assembly.
Pro-tem speaker Binay Bhusan Das administered the oath of office and secrecy. He said that among the newly-sworn-in MLAs, 31 are from the BJP, two are from the Congress, and the remaining 11 are from the CPI-M, the opposition party.
“In total, the BJP-IPFT has 33 MLAs. I was sworn in by the governor the day before, and one of our MLAs, Pratima Bhoumik, resigned. Today saw the inauguration of the remaining 31 MLAs. The CPI-11's MLAs have also taken the oath. Apart from Sudip Roy Barman, the two Congress MLAs have also taken the oath. The remaining MLAs will take their oaths of office in the House tomorrow,” said Das.
Sudip Roy Barman was unable to attend the swearing-in event due to personal obligations, according to Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Birajit Sinha. Tomorrow, the oath will be given to him.
“The MLAs of TIPRA Motha have stated that they would prefer to swear an oath of office and confidentiality in Kokborok, which is their native dialect. In light of this, measures have been taken to suit their convenience. They are scheduled to arrive at the state assembly tomorrow for the remaining activities,” said Das.
The BJP MLAs took their oath of office in the Assembly Chamber; however, the CPI-M members had to take their oath in the Speaker's Chamber due to their tardy arrival.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who spoke shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, said, "Development is our main objective; our state should be among the most developed, as we have always stated. In a parliamentary democracy, the roles of the ruling and opposition parties in state assembly procedures are significant."
Jitendra Choudhary, state secretary of the CPI-M and recently elected MLA from the Sabroom assembly constituency, said, "Over the next five years, we shall struggle to preserve the rights of people guaranteed by the Indian constitution. Rights to free expression, dissent, and resistance should all be upheld. The 40 lakh residents of the state will be represented by all 11 of the CPI-M party's legislators. We will always work together for the state's growth and advancement and always oppose any measures that go against the interests of the populace”. FD JK
