By Firstdespatch Desk May 18, 2026
Agartala, May 18 (FD) A major step has been taken toward strengthening film and media education in Tripura after the state government approved the allocation of 25 acres of land for the permanent campus of the Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI). The land has been allotted at Bikramnagar Mouja under Sadar Subdivision through the Revenue Department.
The institute was launched in 2022 at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala with the objective of developing the skills and creative talent of young people through modern cinematic and digital technologies. TFTI has been functioning in collaboration with the renowned Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and has already conducted several certificate courses related to the film and entertainment industry.
For the first time in the 2025–26 academic session, the institute introduced one-year postgraduate certificate courses in Screen Acting and Film and Video Editing. The state government is currently bearing 80 percent of the course fees to encourage greater participation from students and aspiring filmmakers.
Officials believe that the construction of a permanent campus with modern infrastructure and advanced facilities will significantly strengthen the institute’s role as a center of excellence in film and media studies. The initiative is also expected to create new opportunities for youth interested in filmmaking, acting, editing, and digital content production.
The upcoming campus is anticipated to play an important role in showcasing Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and the diverse traditions of its indigenous and tribal communities on national and international platforms. The government views the project as a long-term investment in creative education, cultural promotion, and employment generation in the state’s growing media sector. FD SB
