Agartala, Nov 22 (FD) In order to make the roads encroachment free for pedestrians and make the city clean, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) led by Mayor Dipak Majumder on Tuesday launched a anti-encroachment drive at Battala market area and demolished many shops built illegally on public property and lifted illegally parked vehicles.
AMC officials conducted anti-encroachment operation on Battala Mahadev Bari-Dasmighat road in Battala marker area with the help of police, traffic personnel and other security personnel.
Besides, local Club members, the Market Committee officials were also present during the operation on Tuesday morning.
The operation was carried out after a two-day announcement against illegal parking and business establishments on the road adjacent to Battala market.
Accordingly, the mayor himself stood up and led the anti-encroachment drive and ordered to remove all illegally parked bikes along with the demolition of sidewalk shops.
He also instructed the team to demolish the shops selling country liquor inside the market with the help of bulldozers.
Interacting with the media, the AMC Mayor said the demolition of indigenous liquor shops is part of the initiative to make Tripura a drug-free state.
In order to make the capital city clean and free for uninterrupted movement of traffic and common people the drive was conducted, Majumder told reporters.
He said, similar drives would be conducted to make other streets of the city to make them free from encroachment and illegal parking.
The Mayor said, the drive is not targeting street vendors as they are protected under Tripura Street Vendors Act. He invited the vendor license holders to communicate with the department and they will get identity cards and will also designate proper areas where they can do business. FD PD JK
