Agartala, July 20 (FD) In a significant development, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is set to be renamed the 'Tipra Territorial Council.' According to reliable sources, the proposal for this renaming was initially forwarded by the BJP-led Tripura government during the tenure of former Chief Minister Biplab Deb.
The proposal, along with several other recommendations, including expanding the powers of the ADC administration, was sent to the Union Home Ministry on November 28, 2019.
Sources reveal that the proposal was first submitted to the Union Home Ministry on November 28, 2019, as part of the 125th Constitution Amendment Bill.
Despite the state government's consent, the bill is currently pending in the Rajya Sabha. The revised ADC administration is expected to have 50 seats, granting it the power to manage land transfers and form village councils and municipal bodies.
Political analysts speculate that the Union Home Ministry's decision to rename the ADC comes as part of an effort to garner support from the Tipra community ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
With the proposed changes, the central government aims to strengthen ties with the Tipra community and consolidate their support during the electoral process.
The renaming of the ADC is seen as a crucial step towards addressing regional sentiments and fostering inclusivity, as the Tipra Territorial Council seeks to uphold the rights and aspirations of the tribal communities in Tripura. As the bill awaits the Rajya Sabha's approval, the political landscape in the state remains abuzz with anticipation and speculation. FD SB
