Agartala, Apr 12 (FD) The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections witnessed an impressive voter turnout of around 83 percent, according to preliminary estimates released by the Tripura State Election Commission. However, the final voter turnout figures are still awaited due to delays in receiving complete reports from several remote regions.
Addressing a press briefing on polling day evening, State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen stated that while the provisional turnout stood at approximately 83 percent, the number is expected to rise once all data is compiled. He explained that poor internet connectivity in interior parts of the state significantly slowed down the transmission of polling data, causing delays in final aggregation.
Despite minor disruptions reported at certain polling stations, the Commission emphasized that the overall election process remained largely peaceful. Multiple political parties lodged complaints alleging irregularities and isolated incidents during voting. The SEC confirmed that these complaints have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for detailed investigation.
“The complaints are under review, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry,” Sen said during the briefing.
In a key development, the Commission has ordered a re-poll in one booth under the Pekuajarjala–Janmejoy Nagar constituency following allegations of voting irregularities. The decision underscores the SEC’s commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
While the high voter participation reflects strong democratic engagement among voters in the tribal council areas, the delay in final turnout figures and reports of isolated incidents highlight logistical and administrative challenges faced during the elections. Authorities are now expected to release the final turnout data and investigation outcomes in the coming days. FD SB
